Forward Planning

The Wear Valley Local Plan is currently in development. It sets out the policies and proposals to guide development and development control decisions. It was prepared taking into account Government policy as well as local aspirations and circumstances.

Wear Valley Local Plan

The Wear Valley Local Plan provides policies and proposals for the district for the period 1997 - until at least 2007, under current transitional arrangements. To view this, please go to the main County Council website at www.durham.gov.uk.

Local Development Framework

The Council has commenced work under the provisions of the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 to prepare a Local Development Framework which will gradually supersede the Wear Valley District Local Plan. Transitional arrangements have been put in place whereby the existing Wear Valley District Local Plan policies and proposals will be retained until at least September 2007 to ensure full policy coverage whilst the new development plan is being prepared. The Council’s adopted Local Development Scheme sets out the programme of work to be undertaken in relation to the preparation of the Local Development Framework.
